Rio Nosara Sendero Meraki

January 2024

This past January, students from Colegio Boca de Nosara and Del Mar Academy came together again for a 5-day program to learn and develop concepts for the trail improvements and nature regeneration along the river bank. The Rio Nosara Sendero Meraki is a long-term annual project which focuses on the trail between Santa Marta and the commercial centre (la Bomba). This program is part of a joint effort between NOCA, the NCA and a number of stakeholders in Nosara. Our objective for 2024 is to complete the planning and logistics, get the necessary approvals and start planting with the NOCA students during the wet season. Stay tuned for more!

Que Tenemos Aqui
Timeline: 2024/2025

Inspired by the first few words of local poet Manuel Yglesias and music by local musician Daniel Mora, critically-acclaimed Austrian dancer/choreographer Jasmin Rituper will interpret the poem Que Tenemos Aqui (What we have here). Jasmin will be assisted by Diego Espinoza Lopez, a young upcoming local artist whose passion for the arts and specifically dance, makes this project a unique opportunity and collaboration.

Members of the community will engage in a unique series of collaborative workshops bringing together over 30 members of the local Tico and international community, collaborating in evolving the poetry, the music and the choreography and dance.

Planning and logistics are currently underway. Workshop are set to begin by November 1 and will span, once a week, over a 6 weeks period. Final performance to the public will be produced in collaboration with Costa Rican artist/actress and dramaturge Ana Clara Carranza. The public performance is planned for January 2025.

A documentary of the entire creative and production process will be capture by local filmmaker/photography, Matthew Chenet.

Somos Unos: A Drum Circle series of events by Daniel Mora

Every Friday at Sunset, Playa Guiones

Join us in the rhythmic heartbeat of Nosara's vibrant community with Somos Uno, a drum circle program orchestrated by local musician and artist, Daniel Mora. Translating to "We Are One," Somos Uno invites both local Ticos and international expats to converge, drumming away barriers, both social and cultural, while fostering a profound spirit of camaraderie.

Through the universal language of music, Somos Uno aims to dissolve the divisions that often fragment communities, allowing the beat of the drums to resonate as a unifying force. Beyond merely creating music, these drum circles serve as sacred spaces where individuals from all walks of life can find common ground, share stories, and celebrate the rich tapestry of Nosara's diverse community.

Led by Daniel Mora's passion for cultural exchange and unity, Somos Uno endeavors to dismantle stigmas and misconceptions that may exist, paving the way for deeper connections and understanding among its participants. Come join us as we drum, dance, and embrace the essence of unity, affirming that in Nosara, We Are One.

Aligning with NOCA’s mission, we are proud to support Daniel in these uniting events.

Project: Rio Nosara Sendero Meraki
Timeline: January 2023

In January 2023, 42 local and international students and community volunteers have taken part in this significant environmental regeneration visioning project along the RIO NOSARA. This first-phase of the broader project is entitled: Parque Lineal de Rio Nosara and focusing on the creation of a linear park and 1.5km trail along the river bank from Santa Marta to the “bombas” (gas station).

The importance of the RIO NOSARA and its impact on the surrounding community and land is paramount. This area connects many parts of the community with the NCA trail system, the residents of Santa Marta and environs as well as the surrounding and environmentally sensitive land all the way to Playa Nosara. Initial discussions with local stakeholders and community leaders have led to commitments for support in seeing this vision of Parque Lineal de Rio Nosara become a reality.

The design program will be held from January 30th to February 10, led by architectural designers Andrew Davies and Elizabeth level-Davies of No9 | Community of Sustainability (Toronto, Canada) with the support and collaboration of a number of subject matter experts in Ecosystem Management, Environmental Regeneration and Design, Industrial & Product Design, Environmental Awareness and Education.
